About Me

I am a designer, maker, researcher and academic in the fields of Interactive and Visual Design (IVD) and Human-Computer-Interaction (HCI) with a background in Multimedia Design and Virtual Reality (VR). Currently, I am the course coordinator at the School of Design at Queensland University of Technology and an Adjunct Professor at the Design School at Taylor's University. My research and teaching interests are in the areas of Tangible Media, Embodied Interaction, Visual Communications; Data Visualisation, Information Design, Physicalisation and Participatory Design.

Philosophy of Teaching Statement

I am passionate about integrating research into undergraduate teaching. My vision is to form design paradigms where the design disciplines drive the changes required to respond to the world's challenges. This vision is based on my education, teaching, research and industry experiences. To achieve this vision, I like to promote strengthening students' design culture and professional profiles. This approach encourages students to consider their work beyond the university and seek industry engagement opportunities to increase students' exposure to professional forums. Success in this area can strengthen students' professional profiles and improve school and university reputation.

Research Projects

I completed my Masters and PhD in IVD; both were on designing and making physical Data visualisations; Physicalisations with the focus on user-oriented approach. I have published and presented a refereed paper based on the research during my Master's degree. Prior to the postgraduate study, I have obtained a Bachelor of Multimedia with Honours in VR. I strongly believe in cross-disciplinary collaboration, as a result in my recent roles at the Queensland University of Technology, I worked across different faculties; Creative Industries Faculty, Science and Engineering Faculty and Faculty of Health. Through professional life as a designer and a researcher, I have been experiencing and exploring creative approaches and all different level of prototyping form Lo-Fi to Hi-Fi digitally and physically. Beyond teaching and research, I have experience as a professional designer. I worked as 3D simulator artist on several industry projects.
